It’s a wonderful time in history to be alive. The evolution of technology at lightning speed is incredible to behold from a scientific standpoint. The downside has been the overnight extinction of the “personal touch”. Texts, IM’s, tweets, and snapchats bombard the airwaves. The ever-emerging social media world can be overwhelming and disheartening. As much as I resisted, I’ve still found myself too tied to technology.

Even though I remind myself to check social media only once in the morning and once in the evening, I feel it’s pull throughout the day. When I’m working at my computer, I find it difficult to ignore the cyber world; emails, and checking website stats, not to mention Googling any number of topics, and scrolling through my Facebook timeline way too many times. By the end of the day, I feel that I’ve squandered precious minutes on my electronics.

What technology drains from me, I replenish when my devices are off. Time spent with my loved ones and being out in nature recharges my spiritual batteries. It’s there that I can enjoy and appreciate the incredible world around us and really feel the presence of God.

Emotional, physical or spiritual interaction with another living, breathing being is a magical experience. A touch, a hug, or simply quiet companionship can do the trick. Any loving pet owner knows this. We all used to know this before the electronic age overtook us. We just didn’t appreciate it at the time.

Take time to unplug. God is patiently waiting for us there.
